Happy July 4th from Barnes & Cohen Personal Injury Attorneys

Happy July 4th – Barnes & Cohen Personal Injury Attorneys. We hope your July 4th is a safe and happy celebration with family and friends. As we celebrate the birth of our nation our roadways see more traffic and sadly some of the drivers on our roadways are impaired. Over the last 4 years 41% of the drivers killed over the July 4th weekend were drunk. From 2016-2020 1,390 drivers were killed during the July 4th weekend. We think about the 1,390 families that lost their loved ones, their passengers and the innocent victims in the cars they crashed into. Families with children, seniors enjoying a drive, good everyday people.

July 4th weekend Auto Accident fatalities increase. July 4th weekend is the second most deadly holiday on our roads.

Celebrate Safely-

  • Plan ahead if you plan to celebrate with alcohol stay put or make sure you have a designated driver that is NOT drinking
  • If you are hosting a party with alcohol agree that those drinking will turn in their keys make sure you have designated drivers as a last resort, consider AAA “Tow to Go” or call an UBER.
  • Don’t Drive distracted – If you are driving put your cellphone down while you are driving
  • Buckle up!
  • Drive defensively

AAA is offering “Tow to Go” a program designed to prevent injuries and deaths caused by impaired drivers. AAA “Tow to Go” is a program offering a free ride to impaired drivers and their vehicles who do not have a safe alternative.

“Tow to Go”

  • Free confidential ride available to AAA Members and non-members.
  • The AAA tow truck transports the vehicle and driver home or somewhere safe within 10 miles.
  • Appointments cannot be scheduled in advance to use Tow to Go. It is designed as a safety net for those that did not plan ahead. Always choose a designated driver before celebrating.
  • In some situations, AAA may need to make other arrangements to get an impaired individual a safe ride home.
  • Tow to Go may not be available in rural areas or during severe weather conditions.
