CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY WEEK

“Child Passenger Safety Week” begins this week. Recognized by Governor Rick Scott, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reminds us to protect our most precious cargo. Last year 1,165 children were wearing no safety restraints when they were injured in an auto accident. Injuries that could have been prevented in or at least the injuries would not have been as serious in most of these cases. Crash test have proven child safety seats save lives and protect our children from many serious injuries. Children should be seated in the proper restraint for their size and weight. Children under 4 must be seated in a child safety seat. Children 4 and 5 years of age are required to ride in a car seat or booster seat. Children under 12 years of age should be seated in the back seat. Front seat air bags when deployed can be dangerous to children. The Florida Highway Patrol offers free car seat installation and safety checks at Florida Highway Patrol Troop locations.
